Terms of service

Last updated 23 October 2026

Draft — have counsel review before launch. This is a working draft written for review. It is not yet a binding agreement and may change before the service opens to the public.

Tab (tab.baby) lets the people who run public AI apps show what their app costs to run and take tips toward it. These terms cover creators who set up a tip jar and supporters who send a tip.

1. The service

Creators register an app, connect a Stripe account and embed a small widget that shows the app’s recent inference spend and a tip button. Creators manage everything through our MCP server from their own editor; there is no Tab dashboard. Payouts, bank details and tax forms are in the creator’s Stripe Express dashboard, which Stripe hosts. We may change or discontinue features with reasonable notice.

2. Creator accounts

  • You must be at least 18, give accurate information, and complete Stripe’s identity checks for a Stripe Express account in a country we support. Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement applies to your Stripe account in addition to these terms.
  • Your MCP access token is shown once. Keep it secret; anyone holding it can manage your tip jars. Rotate it at any time from the install page.
  • You are responsible for the apps you list, for what your widget says, and for any taxes on the tips you receive.
  • If you add an inference-provider API key, you authorise us to use it only to read your usage and cost figures for the burn counter. Use a key with the narrowest scope your provider offers, and revoke it with your provider whenever you like.

3. Tips

  • A tip is a voluntary gift to the creator, not a purchase. Tipping does not buy goods, services, access or influence, and creators owe supporters nothing in return.
  • Each tip is between $1 and $1,000 and is charged in US dollars through Stripe Checkout. A supporter who chooses to cover the processing fee pays it on top of the tip, so their card is charged a little more than the tip itself: a $1,000 tip with processing covered is charged $1,030.18. Checkout shows the full amount before the supporter pays. We never see or store card numbers; Stripe processes the payment.
  • Funds go to the creator’s connected Stripe account, less the platform fee below and Stripe’s card processing fee. If the supporter covers processing (the default), it isn’t taken out of the tip; if they don’t, it is. The platform fee always comes out of the tip.
  • Whatever card a supporter uses, the platform fee and processing taken from a charge together are never less than Stripe’s price for an international card (4.4% + 30¢ of the charge). Only at the 1% rate (tips above $10,000 in a month) is that minimum the larger amount; there, about half a percent more of each tip (at most 0.55% plus 2¢) goes to cover it.
  • Tips reach the creator’s Stripe balance right away but are held there for 7 days before they can be paid out, and payouts to the creator’s bank run weekly, on Mondays. The hold leaves time to handle refunds and disputes before the money leaves Stripe, so a tip usually reaches the creator’s bank one to two weeks after it was sent.
  • New accounts have lower limits, because stolen-card fraud is charged to the platform. For the first 30 days after a creator’s Stripe account can take tips, tips across all of the creator’s tip jars are capped at $2,000 in total (a tip that would go over the cap is declined, and once tips reach it the tip jars stop taking tips until those 30 days are up), and Checkout requests 3D Secure authentication from the supporter’s card issuer on every tip. Any tip of $100 or more requests it whatever the account’s age.

4. Platform fee

Our fee is marginal and calculated per creator for each calendar month (UTC), resetting on the first of the month:

  • 5% of the first $1,000
  • 3% of tips from $1,000 to $10,000
  • 1% of tips above $10,000

Each rate applies only to the part of the month’s tips inside its band. A tip’s fee is fixed when the supporter starts checkout, from the tips we have recorded for that month by then; tips still being paid, or not yet recorded, aren’t counted. So near a band edge, tips sent close together can each be charged the earlier, higher rate. Stripe’s own processing fee is separate. Stripe Checkout shows the tip and, when the supporter covers processing, a separate “Card processing” line. It doesn’t list the platform fee. Creators can see the fee taken on each tip, and for the month, with the get_donations and get_stats MCP tools. We will give creators at least 30 days’ notice of any increase.

5. Refunds and disputes

  • Tips are generally non-refundable. If a tip was sent by mistake or without your permission, write to hello@tab.baby within 30 days with the date and amount, and we will work with the creator to refund it where appropriate.
  • When a tip is refunded, the supporter gets back what they paid and the amount the creator received for it is taken back from the creator’s Stripe balance, which can go below zero. Stripe does not return its processing fee on a refund, and the creator bears it: we return our platform fee on the refunded amount when we process the refund, so after a full refund the creator is down by the processing taken on that tip. On a $100 tip whose supporter covered processing (the default), that is $3.30, or $3.85 at the 1% rate, where the international-card minimum applies. If the supporter didn’t cover processing, it is about 2.9% + 30¢ ($3.20 on a $100 tip), or about 3.4% + 30¢ at the 1% rate ($3.70 on a $100 tip).
  • If a supporter disputes a charge with their bank, Stripe debits the platform. We may recover the disputed amount and Stripe’s dispute fee from the creator’s connected account, and we may pause or close tip jars with unusual dispute or fraud rates.

6. Acceptable use

No fraud, card testing, money laundering, misleading fundraising, or content or apps that break the law or Stripe’s restricted-business rules. Don’t interfere with the service, probe other creators’ data, or use the widget to collect anything other than tips.

7. Suspension and closing an account

We may suspend a tip jar or account that breaks these terms, puts supporters at risk, or that Stripe restricts. Creators can stop taking tips at any time: the pause_campaign MCP tool stops a tip jar right away (checkout refuses new tips and the widget says it isn’t accepting tips; tips already being paid still complete), and pause_campaign with paused: false resumes it. Removing the widget takes it off the app. To close your account, write to hello@tab.baby. Records of past tips are kept as described in the privacy policy, as accounting and payment law requires.

8. Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided as is. The burn counter is an estimate based on provider-reported figures and may be delayed or incomplete. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to a creator is limited to the platform fees they paid us in the previous 12 months. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.

9. Changes

We will post changes on this page and update the date above. For material changes we will email creators in advance. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it.
